The Johannesburg Weavers and Spinners Guild was established in 1974.  Its aims are to promote and practice the craft of spinning and weaving in all aspects. 

With this in mind, the Guild Executive arranges lectures and workshops, courses and outings to places of particular interest to members.Every second year we hold a "break-away" where five-day courses are offered at an out-of -town venue.

Meetings are held twice monthly. On the 1st Saturday of every month, except January, a lecture meeting is held at the Floreum, Botanical Gardens in Emmarentia at 9.30am.  On the 3rd Wednesday there is a hands-on workshop, also at the Floreum, at 10.00am.

We have, housed at the floreum, a very extensive library which is available to all members at a very reasonable cost.  Members can also hire equipment such as looms, spinning wheels, etc.

Our members are always willing to help with problems. Lessons can be arranged, but if you don't want formal lessons, you will be guided on what books to read.
