DESCRIPTION	The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established as the regulator under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 (the Act) and is responsible for the regulation of the South African credit industry. It is tasked with carrying out education, research, policy development, registration of industry participants, investigation of complaints, and ensuring enforcement of the Act. NCR is responsible for dealing with complaints related to the National Credit Act, The Usury Act No. 73 of 1968, The Exemption Notice of 1999 and the Credit Agreements Act No. 75 of 1980. The NCR also acts as a mediator in disputes arising between consumers and credit providers or credit bureaux in terms of these Acts. Where informal resolution is not possible, the NCR may issue compliance notices or refer the matter to the National Consumer Tribunal.
