If not everyday, then at least every week I hear something to the effect of "Oh, I advertise with so and so or so and so." And I am talking web advertising and marketing here. How many businesses market themselves through an online publishing house or directory because of the name/brand? And what are they actually getting in return. And here's my gripe :-) 3 years ago I started looking at ways to reduce annual costs for my members with Oink Midrand. I've done that by over 50%. I did that simply by giving business what they were paying for! Although some clients may tell you I go a bit further than that. Anyhow, in that statement I make another. And that is : Web Developers are not always telling you what you need to know" .. and this is where comparative advertising comes into my mind.
2011-05-28 - Copper/Cable Thieves Target Electricity Pillar Boxes - President Park, Midrand
It would appear that with new technology defeating cable and copper thieves, criminals have turned to breaking open electricity pillar boxes and cutting the copper wires. More than this it is being done on open roads where there is lots of traffic. President Park in Midrand has long been the victim of telephone/communication interruptions due to copper thieves and it seems that residents need to prepare for electricity outages due to theft as experienced today by residents and businesses on Modderfontein Road. Read on for more and images of the crime scene.
17:20:36 - 2011-01-14 I've been saying this for a while now, but in 2011 Cell C, MTN, Virgin Networks are appearing far more likely for me. No matter where I am in South Africa, whether in Cape Town, KwaZulu-Natal, Midrand in Johannesburg or anywhere, I have always had these issues with Vodacom. Vodacom just has too many issues. The new website also sends a user from pillar to post to ensure they generate as many hits and page views as possible before the user actually accesses their accounts or e-mail. It's absurd and the consumer must start talking out about the total rip off that they (Vodacom) have become. We are not all stupid and the wool can pulled over our eyes only for so long. Please read on for more information. I'll say it again. Being best (if they really truly are) does not mean that you're actually any good at all.

2010-05-10 19:04:36 I noted only a few minutes that Twitter seems to have malfunctioned. Twitter users across the world bombarded the Social Networking site with queries. The #Twitter hash tag was used thousands of times within minutes and it would appear that users who were being followed and who follow others may have to refollow and vica versa. On the other hand it could be a slight technical glitch which causes a quick panic and then is sorted. Could it be Twitter itself? I saw the question asked on the net. No, I can't believe that, it would just amount to seriously and unforgiveably bad PR. Something has gone amiss. Let's just hope that Twitter sorts it out without too much further ado. Gotta admit, I quite like the Tweet thang myself - Craig Nuttley

22:31:01 2010-04-17 With each passing moment the competition to grab search engine users attention is getting stiffer. All company is trying to direct web traffic to their websites by hook or crook. The most dependable method to get high web traffic is SEO service or search engine optimization service. Its application is increasing day by day. Search engine optimization service is the hottest topic in web world nowadays. Millions of persons are associated with this process which is nothing but online marketing. When search engine optimization service was in its nascent stage, many unfair methods or tricks were followed to gain high traffic. Gradually search engine users came to the knowledge of this illegal method and took much needed remedial steps. They set a code of conduct for those who are trying to receive greater web traffic. If some website violates this code of conduct they would simply be blacklisted and consequently wiped out of the search engines. Google is very much strict in this case among all search engine users. In fact it is Google that is the centre of all search engine optimization services.

These tip offs are sent directly to the police who act on them. “Many of the tip-offs relate to drugs, which comes as no surprise to the authorities as drugs are a major problem in our communities,” said Head of Crime Line, Yusuf Abramjee. “It is also encouraging to see that information on other crimes is increasingly coming in."

20:23:19 - 22 January 2010. There is a gang of killers on the loose in Midrand and I have started counting the number of white people who are making headlines through the loss of their lives. I haven't started counting because I am a racist, so get that thought out of your mind. I cannot give you statistics as I have not researched this issue, but how can the frequency be ignored. It grabs the attention after a while and one starts to think. Yesterday, I grabbed a copy of the Midrand Reporter and the headline read “1 Suburb, 2 Days, 2 Murders.”

2009-12-30 - 17:07:10pm: Medical Parole on the basis of a terminal illness? No. Medical Parole for a friend of the president. While there are thousands of inmates in prisons across South Africa who are on the brink of dying from Aids related diseases, the cigar puffing Schabir Schaik sits at home (while he's not out visiting the chemist), when in fact, according to Medical Parole Policy, he should sit in prison until his death is imminent. It is a fact that Correctional Services holds a policy which requires that a prisoner be on his last legs before being released on medical parole and they are sent home to die. What makes Schabir Schaik an exception to that rule? Why, he's a friend of the president of course.
The Gauteng Rapid Response Unit recovered over R 330 000 worth of stolen property and drugs and made ten arrests as a result of Crime Line tip-offs. At the same time, organised crime syndicates are starting to feel the pinch – thanks to information from the public. Many of the anonymous tip-offs sent to 32211 make their way to the Gauteng Rapid Response Unit. “The officers who man this unit have shown unwavering commitment to following-up on these tip-offs and in November they were responsible for several highlights of the Crime Line campaign,” said Gauteng Police Commissioner, Perumal Naidoo. “Encouragingly, all ten of the arrests were made in six cases and each of these cases was linked to organised crime,” he said. “We must continue targeting these syndicates.”

Two men have been arrested in Johannesburg and the suspects could be linked to “scores” of housebreakings in the Windsor, Randburg and Florida areas. Members of the Gauteng Task Team, assisted by the Johanneburg Dog Unit, raided a house in Princess Street Mayfair. “This is where they arrested a man in his 50’s. 20 November 2009. Has FIFA forgotten the fair play policy it parades before the world. Since when is the referee's decision final in a situation where a player brings the game into disrepute by blatantly cheating. The world has seen the footage and the message is clear, FIFA has allowed cheating in the game to gain a result by refusing to allow a replay between France and Ireland. Had the blatant handball by Thierry Henry been blown up, the world may have seen France fail to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Soccer Finals in South Africa and Ireland qualify. FIFA didn't want that.
20 November 2009: BLOW THE WHISTLE ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING - Crime Line, an anonymous tip-off service, will focus on human trafficking for the next two weeks. This “special focus” forms part of the annual 16 days of activism against abuse of women and children campaign. It kicks off next week and runs until December 10. “The theme for the 16-days campaign is: ‘Don't look away, Act against Abuse’. This is exactly what Crime Line is constantly urging - if you know about any wrongdoing, act by smsing a detailed tip-off to 3 22 11 or go to www.crimeline.co.za,” said Head of Crime Line, Yusuf Abramjee.
In bringing to a close the historic Pan-African Conference of Third World Theologians which was held from the 17th to the 23rd of December 1977 in Accra, Ghana, the organisers summed up the proceedings with an apt Final Communique. It states. We believe that African theology must be understood in the context of African life and culture and the creative attempt of African peoples to shape a new future that is different from the colonial past and the neo-colonial present. The African situation requires a new theological methodology that is different from the approaches of the dominant theologies of the West. African theology must reject, therefore, the prefabricated ideas of North Atlantic theology by defining itself according to the struggles of the people in their resistance against the structures of domination. Our task as theologians is to create a theology that arises from and is accountable to African people (1979:193).- NB: The views reflected here are not necessarily supported by Oink Midrand - Simply an interesting article.

They seized car parts and an Audi A3 that was stolen in the area. “The vehicle was stripped, said Wood.
National Police Commissioner, Bheki Cele says he is “encouraged by the growing number of people who are blowing the whistle on crime.”He was responding to the latest Crime Line successes. A further 19 arrests have been made and R1,7 million worth of confiscations have been recorded in October following anonymous tip offs to Crime Line’s 3 22 11 sms service and the www.crimeline.co.za website. This takes the total number of arrests made following Crime Line tip offs to 846, and seizures totaling R32 million since the launch of Primedia’s Crime Line in June 2007. "It is heartening to see more and more members of the public passing on information about criminals which is leading to their arrest and to confiscations. This should become a way of life. The public should be the eyes and ears of the police.
When considering the incarceration (prison) system and its effects on society in South Africa, the pretence of those who manage it can be described as nothing less than a slap in the face of society. In the early months of 2008, a ’selected’ group of sentenced prisoners were sent to address and/or answer questions in parliament. There, they extolled the smooth running of our prisons, the ‘motherly’ provider of rehabilitation, warmth, food, psychological and social services etcetera. What a sham! But of course, these prisoners were selected for a reason … to assist the incompetent and perpetuate the lie.

A recent global “fugitive round-up operation- Operation INFRA Red”, launched by Crime Stoppers International (CSI), Interpol and various law enforcement agencies, attracted the most interest from South Africa. Primedia’s Crime Line was the local driving force. The announcement was made to hundreds of delegates at the 30th annual CSI conference which is underway in Broad Beach, Queensland, Australia. At the same time, three South Africans were formally welcomed onto the Board of Directors of the world-wide crime combating body – a first for the African continent.
National Police Commissioner Bheki Cele has applauded the successes of the Crime Line initiative and has thrown his full weight behind the project which has led to the arrest of 828 individuals since its launch in 2007. Anonymous tip-offs from the public led to 19 arrests in September, proving that individuals can make a difference in the fight against crime by smsing their information to Crime Line.
Crime Line rewards top cops - Captain Dennis de Adriao (left) and head of Crime Line, Yusuf Abramjee (far right) congratulate the winners of the Star of the Stars award for August and September, Superintendent Nelson Komana and Captain Lee Wood. Komana, who is the CrimeStop call centre manager, was chosen by the SAPS as August's winner for his tireless work behind the scenes. Wood and his team at the Gauteng Crime Line Nodal Point won the award for the third time in September. They busted, among other things: a chop shop; fraudsters who were creating fake documents and made various drug-related arrests and seizures. In the two years since Crime Line was launched, 828 arrests have been made following anonymous tip-offs to 3 22 11 and over R31 million worth of stolen property, counterfeit goods and drugs has been seized. Jeez, you should see the wheel chair they supplied – a like lawnmower-frame thingy with a white plastic garden chair fastened to the frame – rickety, rocky oi ! We had a good laugh – thanks Mike for the wheelchair !

(by Develd Monyai) Residents seem to fighting a losing battle in preventing the destruction of a wetland between Harry Galaun Road & Le Roux Avenue. Developers have invaded the large vlei that has the Vorna Valley stream running through it, and the installation of water pipes is well under way. PNR Construction was given the contract for a residential development on a wetland by Century Developments.

VODACOM. There are so many answers that Vodacom needs to answer about their Vodafone Mobile Connect System. The e-mail is problematic. The service numbers we are given to dial 111 or 082111 disconnect you without your having completed the call and tell you to phone another number after spending long periods of time listening to their recordings. If you buy an ad hoc bundle and you carry the remainder of that bundle over to the next month, you will have to deplete the new months gig before you can use the ad hoc bundle which was purchased before the new months bundle is activated. This is a sly move by Vodacom designed to make money for nothing as often this data will be forfeited if not used by the end of the that months period.

Crime Line appeals to the public to pass on detailed information about shopping mall robberies. Read an extract from a Cabinet Statement Below.
"The recent spate of violent robberies in parts of the Gauteng Province was noted with concern. Cabinet is satisfied that the law enforcement agencies are doing all that is necessary to apprehend the perpetrators. Government will not rest until these bloodthirsty criminals are brought to book sooner rather than later. We call on all communities to be vigilant and to work with the authorities by providing information that will lead to the arrest of these criminals."
Lets continue to fight crime together. Please use Crime Line (sms 32211) or visit the Crime Line web-site to blow the whistle on crime.

I was disgusted by the images carried by News Media on television over the past 3 days since municipal workers embarked on their strike. As much as I have sympathy for struggling workers who are unable to get by on their earnings, they have lost all my sympathy by showing just why they are in the work they do. To put ones bare hands into a dustbin and pull out germ infested rubbish and spread it in public places is a true reflection of the moral standards and class of those individuals. Not only are they spreading disease and putting others at risk, they are revealing the true nature of their own psyches. I can only wonder what the watching world is thinking. South Africans are dirty and have no regard for the health and well-being of the next person? Pigs? Fire them all and give the job to self respecting individuals. And hey, if you want a better job with better pay, get a better education or start using your heads. No sympathy here for inconsiderate slime slugging, disease spreading imbeciles who cannot consider the health of others in achieving their own selfish (justified?) aims. Craig Nuttley. The road under the bridge in Alexandra Road in Halfway House is becoming more than just a nuisance. It's become a costly affair for motorists who are not aware of overnight potholes appearing only days after being repaired. I arrived at the bridge a few minutes before another photographer from? He wouldn't tell me. A concrete slab was placed in the road in an attempt to stop the continuous erosion and forming of potholes only a week or so ago. It obviously hasn't worked. There are fresh potholes all around the concrete slab and the damage being caused to motorists vehicles is untold.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) named "The Hawks" was launched at Gallagher Convention Centre on Monday. The unit replaces the Directorate for Special Operations famously known as The Scorpions. At the launch the Scorpions handed 228 pending cases to the head of the DPCI, Commissioner Anwa Dramat. The cases include arms deals and that involving former police commissioner Jackie Selebi. The DPCI has been tasked to prevent, combat and investigate national priority offences.
Police have arrested three of the four suspects who robbed and terrorised the Diepsloot ext. 6 Community. They were arrested in Allan Road, Glen austin on Saturday (4th July) at 3am. Police were patrolling when they stopped four suspicious looking men in a red 1400 Nissan.
They bagan to search and recovered two firearms, a TV, clothing and eight cellphones. One suspect managed to escape. Investigations revealed that one of the recovered firearms belonged to a Tembisa resident.
At the launch of the new Crime Fighting Unit at Gallagher Estates in Midrand it was announced that the new Unit will be called as The Hawks. There are huge challenges which will face this Crime Fighting Unit and there can be no doubt that the reputation of The Hawks, it's managers and the 'troops' on the ground will be built on performance and the delivery of a National Crime Fighting Unit which is free of corruption and greed. Only time will tell.

Last night a child was killed (The third in the month of June in South Africa) by an owner of a licensed firearm in Parkmore. Once again, the spotlight will be focused on Firearms Laws in South Africa. Questions like 'is the Firearms Control Act tight enough' are bound to be asked. My focus is on a person who is informed of a child screaming, runs to get a gun, aims in the direction of the screams (THE CHILD) and fires from inside a house, through the window and kills a child!! I don't care how threatened the area of Parkmore is by crime, the act described above is one of Cowardice, Stupidity, Incompetence in handling a weapon and displays a huge disregard for human life. The city has an intense gusto for life, and this is showcased in the mixture of sounds and smells which infuse the city. Durban is a port city and is the busiest port in Africa. You can take a ride on a rickshaw, a distinctive Durban experience, with the drivers decorated in ornate headdresses. At the very heart of Durban is the 'golden mile', a four kilometer stretch of beaches, promenades, swimming pools and restaurants. The water is warmed by the Aghulas current and even during winter, the water temperature averages at 15°C making it ideal for year-round swimming.

Johannesburg 2010 World Cup Soccer along with an information package Powered by FIFA (click). Johannesburg is the business hub of South Africa, contributing a substantial part of the country's GDP approximately 12%. Jozi, as it is affectionately known by its inhabitants, can also be a sanctuary of peace and calm. It has a wealth of trees creating an 'urban forest', and many of the trees are located in the 2328 parks.

What is the cause of the constant reappearance of the same potholes under the bridge in Alexandra Road, Halfway House. It would appear this is either caused by bad workmanship, or by the construction which is currently taking place in that area. Whatever it is, it's becoming a nuisance and someone needs to sort it out once and for all. The damage being caused to vehicles using this road is untold and unrecorded, but quite imagineable.

Midrand is in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was established as a Local Municipality in 1981, but was incorporated into Region 2 of the City of Johannesburg during the late 1990's and as of 2006, when the number of regions where reduced to seven, it forms part of Region A. Midrand officially ceased to exist in 1998 when Act 15 of 1981 Town Council of Midrand Act was repealed by Act 10 of 1998 Rationalisation of Local Government Affairs Act.
Instrumental in the provision of temporary power and temperature control services, Aggreko has opened its first Africa depot in Midrand. The depot represents an initial investment of R10-million and underlines Aggreko's belief that the increase in industrial growth in South Africa will result in a larger demand for power in the country. Aggreko has been active on the continent for over 10 years, operating large scale power projects in countries such as Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Angola as well as South Africa.
Left: Crime Line Manager Yusuf Abramjee, police director Sally de Beer, Star of the Stars winner Captain Lee Wood and Talk Radio 702 presenter John Robbie. CRIME LINE'S Star of the Stars with Pick 'n Pay honours April's top cops - an active team of crime-busters, who also nabbed a band of thieves in Vorna Valley. On March 18 Crime Line received a tip-off about suspicious activities in the garage of a house in Johannesburg, where boxes marked "MERCK" were clearly visibly when the garage door was opened.
This story is heart wrenching and sickening in the same beat of my heart. When this kind of thing is happening out in the open it is a reflection of our society as a whole. These are supposed to be care givers, nurturers of health, inspirations to the youth, et cetera. When the care givers are unfeeling, I fear to imagine what our disciplinarians are doing. BBbrrr! A cold thought. (Craig Nuttley)
The death of their groom's four-year-old son was caused by neglect on the part of health officials who should be relieved of their duties. So says well-known Randjesfontein resident and musical director of a local church, Hester Stevenson.
Mihla Ndlovu was diagnosed with tuberculosis and admitted to Tembisa Hospital in September last year. He was again declared well enough to be discharged, and was given tablets to take. "He just did not get any better, kept on vomiting and was taken back to Tembisa only to be discharged again," Stevenson told Midrand Reporter.
Scores of property developments in Midrand are being put on hold due to inadequate electricity supply. Two years ago Midrand Developers' Forum was told to abandon its developments because all four substations in Midrand were over-capacitated. Forum Chairman Andre Wolfaardt said that since City Power and Eskom declared a dearth of electricity in the area they have sat in on, and out of, unfruitful meetings. "At the last meeting we proposed consultlng a group of engineers who could outsource enough electricity from the existing substations as a solution to the plight, but the proposal fell on deaf ears," said Wolfaardt.
It would seem that after every rain, fresh potholes appear all around Midrand. Has it something to do with erosion, temporary measures, incompetence or the force of nature? Is the answer as difficult as all of that. Surely not. How many of us have seen for ourselves that filling a hole today creates a bigger hole with the next rain? And haven't we all seen that temporary measures usually manifest themselves as a result of incompetence. Surely there is an answer in all of that jargon. The next time you damage your tyres and rims on a pothole consider who is actually responsible and take the appropriate action - Craig Nuttley (Oink Midrand)
The Public Protector has asked the police not to renege on paying informers rewards as this brought the image of the police into disrepute. Public Protector, Advocate Lawrence Mushwana said members of the public would be reluctant to assist in future if they were promised but never paid rewards, particularly when such assistance involved security risks to individuals and their families. He was responding to the findings of an investigation into a complaint relating to a failure by police to pay a reward to an informer. The informer alleged police failed to pay him a R75 000 reward which was promised for successfully assisting police and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in arresting and securing convictions on certain criminal matters.
